Celebrate the anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence with us and America’s 250th birthday long after 2026! In 2023 a committee, which became known as Countdown to USA250!, was created to mark this milestone celebration. Our goal was to celebrate Shelby County’s roll in 250 years of American history, while being as patriotic as possible in our efforts. Public events and programs were planned, a special exhibit created – 250 Years of Clothing in Shelby County, Kentucky, and we have partnered with the community and other organizations to promote Shelby County, our state, and our nation’s history. Because our freedom was gained through a war, the Revolutionary War, we want to remember our Veterans as well.
We have created the Veteran Flag Project as an ongoing way to do so. We would love to have you contribute information about your special veteran for our files as well to preserve their memory. We want to document as many Shelby County veterans as possible, but this is not limited to those who lived in Shelby County, KY. You may be the tie to the county for your Veteran – maybe you live or work here, but they were not a resident or only lived here a short time – we want to know who they are/were. Please supply the information through the links below.
COST PER FLAG – $50
Honor and forever remember your special Veteran (currently serving/having served, any rank, any war) by purchasing a flag for $50. Cost covers price to print and shipping charges. Flags will be placed throughout the county at sites to be determined and at specific times of the year. You can order at any time and once enough orders are received to send out to print (several times during the year), you will be notified.
QR Code Option
Add a QR Code on your flag to let everyone know more about your Veteran. This feature is optional, but if you provide information through the Veteran Flag Project Biography link, this will go into our files and be accessible digitally on our website for anyone who might be searching for your Veteran as well. The code will be placed in the corner of the flag and take the user to a landing page on our website with a listing of the Veterans and any additional information that is supplied.

Veteran Photo
Please provide the best quality photo possible of your Veteran. We ask that you provide their military photo if possible. If you chose the QR Code option, you may submit additional photos for our records.
