
Shelby County High School’s Kentucky State High School Baseball Tournament team (1979)
The 1979 State Champion’s Shelby County Rockets Baseball Team included front row, left to right, batboy Mike Rogers, Norman Munch, Kerry Whitehouse, Scott Clifford, Charles Clifton, Mark Chandler, Scott Corn, manager.
Middle row, left to right, Billy Reese, Keith Waford, David Bodine, Cody Tipton, Rusty Harrod, Greg Stratton, Lindsey Allen.
Back row, Assistant Coach Phil Bell, Assistant Coach Mitch Bailey, Mike Marshall, Perry Joe Nutt, Greg Jennings, James Ray Wiley, Joe Long, Tracy Driver, Brian Mitchell, Head coach Hubert Pollett.
The Rockets won 18 and lost only 2. The team won the regional tournament by defeating Frankfort, 8-4, the semi-state by rolling over Connor, 5-0, and the state title by edging Murray, 7-5, on Tracy Driver’s home run. Driver was voted the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.
