About The Events
Daisy M. Saffell was a woman ahead of her time. She filled many roles and had many talents, and left behind a legacy that involved Shelbyville’s only Black hospital. Today her legacy continues through the Shelby Congregational Methodist Church where a historical marker will be installed in her honor on Sunday, October 19th at 12:30 pm.
To honor Daisy and advances in healthcare initiatives, a Kentucky Historical Society marker will be placed in front of the church located at 109 Martin Luther King, Jr. St. The Shelby County Historical Society applied for the marker and is supportive and appreciative of all efforts made to document this history of the hospital and Martinsville area. This day is also symbolic as the Shelby Congregational Methodist Church celebrates its 51st anniversary in October in the same building once used as the hospital. The church has planned a special program for the day consisting of fellowship and remembrance. The Agenda (subject to change) consists of:
