About The Events
Bells Across America is an annual event held on September 17th (Constitution Day) to celebrate the signing of the U.S. Constitution on September 17, 1787. Participants across the country ring bells for one minute at exactly 4 pm to recreate the moment church bells in Philadelphia rang out when the document was signed. On that day in 1787, the ringing of the Pennsylvania State House bell and local church bells announced the completion of the U.S. Constitution to the public. The United States Constitution is one of America’s most important documents, and stands as a testament to the tenacity of Americans throughout history to maintain their liberties, freedoms and inalienable rights. This event is widely promoted by the national Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), who originally petitioned Congress to establish Constitution Week.
This local event is sponsored by the Isaac Shelby Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and will be held on the lawn in front of the Shelby County Historical Society Museum at 627 Main St.
Please bring your own bell if possible and join in this national celebration.
