About The Events

Members, join us for our annual Members’ Christmas Dinner which includes an entertaining program by guest speaker by Eddie Price, as we celebrate the holidays with this program. Take a journey back in time to experience the way our ancestors celebrated the holidays. Christmas in frontier Kentucky and Colonial America did not resemble the brightly lit festivities we have today. There were no Christmas trees, greeting cards, slick advertisements or piles of expensive gifts. European immigrants brought their religious and ethnic beliefs with them, and attitudes toward Christmas varied accordingly. Frontier families were inventive as they migrated westward – they cultivated and preserved food, clothes, and everything they needed from scratch. Learn how they incorporated their heritage into their new way of life and began new traditions.

Eddie Price is a Kentucky native. A graduate of Kentucky Wesleyan College (BA) and Western Kentucky University (MA and Rank I), Eddie taught history for 31 years at Hancock County High School, and taught part-time classes for Owensboro Community & Technical College. Eddie is active in the Hancock County Historical Society and helped organize the Young Historians Club. He is the author of Widder’s Landing, One Drop – A Slave!, Rebels Abroad, An Unlikely Trio (The Winners of the 1913 Kentucky Derby), and the Little Miss Grubby Toes series of children’s books. Eddie also portrays jockey Roscoe Goose for the Kentucky Humanities Council Chautauqua program, and is a speaker for the Kentucky Humanities Council Speakers Bureau. Eddie will have a selection of books for sale.
