About The Events
Members, join us for our annual Members’ Christmas Dinner which includes an entertaining program by guest speaker by Eddie Price, as we celebrate the holidays with this program. Take a journey back to 1811 and experience homemaking on the Kentucky Frontier – “From the ground up.” Learn how frontier folk cultivated and preserved their food, made their clothes, doctored their families, and still found time for recreation and religion. Cooking on open hearths, hemp and flax breaking, heckling, spinning, weaving, and dyeing will be examined as well as Native American and folk remedies. This program is part show & tell – Eddie will display utensils used by early Kentuckians and provide a PowerPoint slideshow.
Eddie Price is a Kentucky native. A graduate of Kentucky Wesleyan College (BA) and Western Kentucky University (MA and Rank I), Eddie taught history for 31 years at Hancock County High School, and taught part-time classes for Owensboro Community & Technical College. He is the author of Widder’s Landing, One Drop – A Slave!, Rebels Abroad, An Unlikely Trio (The Winners of the 1913 Kentucky Derby), and the Little Miss Grubby Toes series of children’s books.
