
General J. Franklin Bell honored
The family of General J. Franklin Bell was honored by townspeople in June of 1903 following his triumphant return from service with the Philippine Expeditionary Force, 1898-1902. Here he appears in front of the George A. Armstrong home on West Main Street.
Gen. Bell was born in Shelby County on Jan. 8, 1856 and died in 1919 after distinguishing himself in the Philippines and World War I. He is one of two Shelby Countians to be awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor.
