Interurban car 107
Interurban car 107 was on its final run from 2nd Street in Shelbyville, where the turntable was located, to Louisville in 1934. The interurban system had reached the fairgrounds in 1910 and downtown Shelbyville in 1912. The popularity of automobiles and improved roads doomed the Interurban which for more than 20 years served Shelby County’s passenger and freight needs. The tracks were left until World War II when they were removed and sold as scrap metal to help the war effort.
